City departments will have a budget kickoff Monday, Feb. 6, in preparation for the upcoming fiscal year. Fiscal Year 2024 (FY2024) is the city’s budget year that will run from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024. The adopted budget ordinance will set the new tax rate and city fees.
Employee Spotlight: Robert Stockton
This month’s employee spotlight is Robert Stockton, an ADA paratransit driver for the City of Salisbury Transit Department. In his role, Robert transports clients living with disabilities to destinations such as Novant medical facilities, Rowan Cabarrus Community College, W.G (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center to meet their basic needs. He also ensures safety measures are in place and provides exceptional customer service.
The WEST END Grant staff is seeking community input next month as Salisbury Police, parks and recreation, and planning continue the research portion of the nearly $1 million grant from the Department of Justice (DOJ) for West End crime prevention, recreational and public space development and youth.

This month’s employee spotlight is Crissy McBride, the accountant for the City of Salisbury Finance Department. In her role, Crissy balances the general ledger which records all of the City’s transactions, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management. She also prepares State and Federal reports, manages capital assets, and assists with the annual audit.
The Salisbury Human Relations Council (HRC) hosts the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration beginning Saturday, Jan. 14 through Monday, Jan. 16.
The annual cemetery cleanup is scheduled for Monday, January 30 through Friday, February 3 in preparation for the seasonal cemetery mowing in early April. Residents are asked to remove flowers, gifts and other mementos off of their plots before Monday, January 30. Anything on plots during the week of January 30 - February 3 will be removed and discarded.
For the 18th year, Salisbury’s Community Appearance Commission (CAC) continues the tradition of touring Downtown Salisbury business holiday window displays, and awarding the most impactful decorations.
This month’s employee spotlight is Fern Blair, web and marketing services coordinator for the City of Salisbury Communications Department. In her role, Fern manages the city’s websites and branding, designs the monthly newsletter and provides marketing and design support to city departments for events, programs and educational initiatives.
