This month’s employee spotlight is Darrell Riley, an engineering specialist in the City of Salisbury Engineering Department. With 23 years of service, Darrell started his career with public services, currently public works, in 1999 as a grounds maintenance worker. He then joined the engineering department in 2013.
The city of Salisbury was among 25 North Carolina jurisdictions to earn recognition in the North Carolina City & County Communicators (NC3C) 2023 Excellence in Communications Awards.
Today, Salisbury City Manager Jim Greene presented his recommended fiscal year 2023-2024 (FY24) budget to City Council at a budget work session meeting. A fiscal year is the city’s annual financial period beginning July 1 through June 30.

The 2023 Cheerwine Festival will be held on Saturday, May 20, in Salisbury from noon to 10 p.m. In preparation for the Festival, the city will begin to close roadways on Friday, May 19, at 6 p.m.
The City of Salisbury Public Works Department has closed the Shober Bridge due to asphalt concerns. The bridge is located in the 400 block of North Ellis Street.

The city of Salisbury continues the process to find a new chief of police. The planning for the Salisbury Chief of Police search started before the retirement of the former chief in December 2022. Our top priority is to hire the most qualified individual to lead the Salisbury Police Department.
