Why Salisbury P.D.?

EDUCATION PAY INCENTIVES


Incentives include $1000.00 for Associate’s Degree, $2000.00 for Bachelor’s Degree, and $2500.00 for a Master’s Degree.


COMPETITIVE PAY


Lateral tranfers receive 1% per year of service for up to 15 years and a $2000.00 sign on bonus. Lateral transfers also can be eligible to start off 5% higher as a POII if they qualify or 10% higher as an MPO if they qualify.


SIGN-ON BONUSES


New hires, either non-certified or newly BLET certified, receive a $2000 sign-on bonus. Also, out-of-state and N.C. lateral hires receive a $2,000 bonus.

 


BI-LINGUAL BONUS


Bi-lingual officers will receive a 2.5% bonus. Language must meet criteria.


EQUIPMENT


Uniforms, duty gear (including weapon), and take home vehicle (when residence is within Rowan County/30 mile radius of SPD) are standard for SPD officers.  


TIME OFF


New police officers earn 8.5 hours of annual leave and 8.5 hours of sick leave per month. Officers receive 13 paid holidays each year as part of the City employee package.

How Do I Sign-Up?

Hiring Process:

  1. Police Officer Candidates - The first step in the process is to submit the online application. Visit us at https://munis.salisburync.gov to complete an online application.
  2. Once the application has been received, the F3 paperwork and Polygraph Questionnaire will be sent to the applicant. Once reviewed the applicant will be scheduled for a polygraph test.
  3. If the applicant passes the polygraph, a background screening will be completed. Following the background screening, those applicants continuing in the process will be scheduled for a meeting with the Chief of Police.
  4. At the conclusion of their meeting with the Chief of Police, those selected for ongoing consideration will either be extended a conditional offer of employment or placed into a viable stack for hire when an opening exists.
  5. Following the conditional offer phase, an applicant, depending on the position for which they are being considered, must successfully pass a drug, audio, medical and/or psychological screenings.

Eligibility Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen at least 21 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record
  • No felony convictions or certain misdemeanors
  • Ability to pass a thorough background review
  • Ability to pass a drug screen
  • Ability to pass a medical examination
  • Ability to pass a psychological review

Internships

Semester College Internships provide police interns with the opportunity to work and learn alongside officers from both the Patrol and Investigations Divisions. After completing the internship, students will earn college credit while gaining a greater understanding of what is expected to be an officer with the Salisbury Police Department.

The Salisbury Police Department’s Intern Program is a highly competitive process. Prospective applicants must have high moral character and a dedication to community oriented policing. Prospective applicants must be currently enrolled in college and follow all course/syllabus expectations.
