Fire Station 5

Fire Station 5 was originally erected as Fire Station 2 on April 6, 1942, under the direction of Fire Chief Charles L. Burkett. After 38 years of service, the station was closed and replaced by the current Fire Station 2 in 1980. Since closing as a firehouse, the building has housed several different city departments over the years. In 2014, the fire department and Fire Chief Bob Parnell reclaimed the station and began to renovate/restore the building to an active fire station. Several items of fire department historical interest are maintained here.

In 2006, the Salisbury Fire Department began an extensive study to find the most efficient ways in which the department could better utilize the apparatus and equipment during a working fire. After months of research and working together with the Richmond (VA) Fire Department, the decision was made to operate under the Total Quint Concept.

This allowed the most effective uses of each Quint, without losing the typical truck company functions. PDA's or Pre Designated Assignments were established within the Department's operational guidelines, to further allow each apparatus the ability to function as either an engine or ladder company, based on the order of arrival.

The Department's standard response to structure fires include 4 Quints, 1 Rescue Engine, 1 Safety Officer, 1 Battalion Chief, and a Division Chief. Each apparatus is manned with four firefighters, with the exception of Rescue 1.
