What is the HPC?

The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) serves to identify, preserve, and protect Salisbury’s historic resources and issues Certificates of Appropriateness (COA). COAs are issued based on the Local Historic Design Standards.

Special Requirements: All members must reside within the City of Salisbury, and efforts are made to have at least one representative from each of the four residential districts. All members must have demonstrated interest, competence, or knowledge in historic preservation. Good faith efforts must be made to appoint professionals from the disciplines of architecture, history, architectural history, planning, archaeology, or other related disciplines to the extent that such professionals are available in the community and willing to serve.

2024 Meetings:

Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the City Hall, located at 217 South Main Street, Salisbury, NC.

Any changes to the schedule below will be posted.

The City of Salisbury has 14 active, standing boards and commissions created and appointed by Salisbury City Council.

REQUIREMENTS


Board terms are staggered for two-year or three-year terms and most end on March 31. Applicants must be 18 and a Salisbury resident, with some exceptions.
