Salisbury Bank Robbery Suspect Identified

The suspect in the bank robbery at First National Bank yesterday, and who subsequently was shot by a Salisbury Police Officer, has been identified as: Jerick Raheem Gray (4/19/76), a resident of High Point, N.C. Gray died yesterday evening at the hospital of injuries resulting from being shot by the officer. Gray was identified as the driver of the vehicle that officers pursued after the bank robbery.

The second person, a female passenger in the vehicle pursued, is still being treated for an unrelated medical condition. The Salisbury Police Department will not violate her privacy by confirming or denying the type of condition for which she is being treated. As officers are still investigating the circumstances of the robbery, the second person is considered to be a possible accomplice to the robbery, but may also be a victim as well. That investigation is ongoing to clarify what role or circumstances this person was in during the robbery. At this time, no additional information on that person’s involvement will be provided until that investigation is completed, which may take considerable time to resolve.

The officer who fired the shot yesterday is identified as: Christopher Schenk. He has been a police officer with the Salisbury Police Department since 2007, holding the rank of Master Police Officer. Schenk began his career in patrol, spent time as a detective and as a member of the Salisbury gang unit. He is currently assigned to patrol as a Field Training Officer. He was employed by the Spencer Police Department prior to coming to Salisbury, and he has been a police officer since 1991, a total of 27 years of service.

The citizen who was stabbed yesterday in Thomasville at the end of the pursuit is still being treated in the hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery.

We continue to work with the Thomasville Police Department and SBI and fully cooperate as they investigate the circumstances of the stabbing and officer-involved shooting. Salisbury detectives will continue to follow-up on the bank robbery.
