Crews to remove traffic signal at intersection of S. Main and S. Fulton Streets

Crews to remove traffic signal at intersection of S. Main and S. Fulton Streets

The traffic signal at the intersection of S. Main Street, S. Fulton Street/Klumac Road and Heilig Avenue, also known as “Five Points,” will be removed after work in the area negated its need.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT) Rail Division Project U-3459, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), provided a new railroad grade separation aligning with Mooresville Road (NC 150) and S. Main Street (US 29). The project, completed in 2017, eliminated the existing railroad crossing at Klumac Road and recommended removal of the traffic signal.

Stop conditions will be placed on the Klumac Road and Fulton Street sides of the intersection. In addition, necessary changes to the pavement markings will occur at the same time the signal heads are removed and taken out of operation. NCDOT will perform this work in mid- to late July 2018.
