The Historic Preservation Incentive (HPI) Grant Program provides matching grants, up to $2,500, on a competitive basis for exterior projects on owner-occupied homes in Salisbury’s four residential local historic districts: Ellis Street Graded School, Brooklyn South Square, North Main, and West Square. Low/moderate income homeowners may be eligible for a larger award.

The Historic Preservation Incentive Grants provide a modest economic stimulus to owners of homes in Salisbury’s Local Historic Districts to help stabilize, preserve, and maintain the historic character of the individual structure and historic district in accordance with Salisbury’s Local Historic Standards.

To check if your property is located in a historic district, please visit our Historic Preservation page.

Grants are awarded on a competitive basis for exterior maintenance and stabilization projects of owner-occupied homes and businesses within any of the locally-designated residential historic districts identified with Local Historic Overlay (LHO) zoning, excluding the Downtown Local Historic District.

  • Subject property must be located in a Local Historic District (excluding Downtown).
  • Project may not have commenced or been completed prior to notification of award.
  • Subject property must be owner-occupied and the primary residence of the owner.
  • Applicants are only eligible to receive an HPI grant every other year.
