The Historic Preservation Incentive (HPI) Grant Program provides matching grants, up to $2,500, on a competitive basis for exterior projects on residential homes in Salisbury’s local historic districts: Downtown, Ellis Street Graded School, Brooklyn South Square, North Main, and West Square. Property owners with low-moderate income may be eligible for a larger award.

The Historic Preservation Incentive Grants provide a modest economic stimulus to owners of homes in Salisbury’s Local Historic Districts to help stabilize, preserve, and maintain the historic character of the individual structure and historic district in accordance with Salisbury’s Local Historic Standards.

To check if your property is located in a historic district, please visit our Historic Preservation page.

Grants are awarded on a competitive basis for exterior maintenance and stabilization projects of residential homes, both owner and renter-occupied, within any of the locally-designated historic districts identified with Local Historic Overlay (LHO) zoning.

Requirements

  • Subject property must be located in a Local Historic District
  • Project may not have commenced or been completed prior to notification of award
