MANY OPTIONS


The City of Salisbury has 14 active, standing boards and commissions created and appointed by Salisbury City Council.

REQUIREMENTS


Board terms are staggered for two-year or three-year terms and most end on March 31. Applicants must be 18 and a Salisbury resident, with some exceptions.

The Salisbury Youth Council helps 9-12 graders that live within Rowan County find their voice in community decision-making. Members learn valuable leadership skills, responsibility and teamwork.

Boards and Commissions

Alternate Methods of Design Commission

The Alternate Methods of Design Commission has the authority to consider requests of compliance against specific provisions of the Land Development Ordinance by which the spirit and intent of specific design provisions may be upheld.

The seven-member Bell Tower Green Advisory Board was created to manage park development, seek sponsorships and donations, and review and make recommendations for park updates.

The Greenway, Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee's mission is to provide advice related to the greenway development, promotion of the greenway usage and assist staff with decisions relating to the current and future plans for the greenway system.

Historic Preservation Commission

The Historic Preservation Commission is responsible for receiving and approving certificates of appropriateness for structures within local historic districts as well as recommending to the City Council areas to be designated by ordinance as local historic districts.

The mission of the Salisbury-Rowan Human Relations Commission is to create an environment of hospitality, inclusiveness, acceptance and appreciation of the diversity of all people.

The Hurley Park Advisory Board assists in the development of Hurley Park and seeks sponsors for Hurley Park in accordance with the master plan.

The Public Arts Commission manages public art efforts including the annual Salisbury Sculpture Show, the History & Art Trail, and the Art in Public Places program.
