Salisbury Police investigates Catawba College incident

The Salisbury Police Department continues to investigate an incident that occurred on the Catawba College campus, Sunday, February 12, just before 3 a.m.

Officers responded to the college’s Woodson Dorm, for a call of service about a person(s) with a gun and also an fire pull box alarm. Upon officers’ arrival, they learned that two individuals arrived at the college to confront a student about an earlier incident with one of the individual’s girlfriend, who is a current Catawba student. One of the individuals was armed with an unknown type handgun and pointed the weapon at other students who exited their room when the fire pull box alarm was activated. Officers quickly determined that the individuals left prior to their arrival and also learned of their identity. Officers obtained warrants for the following individuals:

  • John Milton Thomas (DOB-11-26-2000), Charged with: Weapon on Educational Property, assault by pointing gun and false fire alarm
  • Makhi Amir Profit (DOB-07-01-2002), Charged with: Accessory after the fact and false fire alarm

Thomas was arrested on 02-12-2023 at approximately 2326 hrs.  He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $5,000 bond. Profit still has outstanding warrants.
