Celebrating 10 years of excellence in showcasing art, the 2018 Salisbury Sculpture Show is now open and available for viewing.
This year, the award-winning Sculpture Show features 20 works of art housed outdoors throughout the city. New this year, Rowan County hosts three sculptures as part of the Arts and Agriculture Tour in partnership with the Tourism Authority.
Artists from across the east coast have been installing their art pieces since late February at locations such as New Sarum Brewing, Livingstone College, the Rowan Museum and the transit depot.
Carefully selected from an open application process, the sculptures represent a wide range of sculptural styles and materials. Each piece was placed to best complement the art and the setting.
Residents and visitors interested in the self-guided tour should begin at the Visitors’ Center at 204 East Innes Street where they can pick up a brochure and begin the walking tour of the 16 downtown Salisbury sculptures. Further out are the 4 sculptures at nearby college campuses and the 3 sculptures around Rowan County. Brochures are also available at Rowan Library, Rowan Museum and at local restaurants and galleries.
The Sculpture Show tour is also available through Otocast, a smartphone app used around the country for public art, historic sites, murals, landmarks, monuments and other points of interest. Use the “tours near me” feature or enter Salisbury, North Carolina in the search bar.
The 2018 Salisbury Sculpture Show will run through January 31, 2019. First, second and third place winners will be announced at the show’s close.
