The Salisbury Police Department has some cool, new initiatives happening right now, including the Crime Watch YouTube Channel, Salisbury Camera Action Network (SCAN), and #SummerCeaseFire. Here’s how you can get involved!
Summer Cease Fire
In partnership with the Salisbury-Rowan National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Salisbury Police Department announced its #SummerCeaseFire campaign, encouraging youth and adults to stop gun-related assaults in the summer of 2019.
The NAACP has identified individuals in the community who will serve as de-escalators in the midst of potentially violent situations. For more information regarding Summer Cease Fire, contact Marcus L. Fairley at marcus.fairley@naacpnc.org.
Crime Watch
The Salisbury Police Department invites you to subscribe to its new Crime Watch YouTube channel, a depository of surveillance videos of crime events within city limits. The channel is an enhanced method to identify suspects of various incidents.
Typically, the department shows still surveillance images of suspects on its social media platforms or via the news media. But watching video of suspects in action — the way they walk or other physical mannerisms — may lead to an arrest more quickly.
To become a part of the community-policing partnership in solving crime, visit salisburync.gov/crimewatch and subscribe.
SCAN
The Salisbury Camera Action Network (SCAN) program, which debuted last month, allows residents and business owners to register their private cameras, such as Nest or Ring, with SPD to help solve crimes in their area. Home and business owners can register their cameras through an online form at salisburync.gov/SCAN.
Only authorized members of SPD will have access to the information. Relevant information is reserved for official use by SPD and will not be released to any member of the general public or media. In the event of a crime, authorized SPD officers will contact the camera owner directly, using the information provided to request the appropriate video surveillance footage.
