Expect major delays on Brenner Ave.
Beginning on Monday, March 9, the Salisbury VA Health Care System (HCS) will only allow vehicle traffic through its Hedrick St. gate for COVID-19 (coronavirus) screenings. Per a news release “all persons entering any Salisbury VA HCS property will be screened for the COVID-19 virus. Please allow extra time to ensure that you arrive at your appointment on time.” As a result, all Brenner Avenue drivers can expect major delays.
It is recommended that drivers avoid Brenner Ave. unless specifically visiting the VA HCS. Alternate routes in order to avoid delays include Jake Alexander Blvd., Innes St. and Statesville Blvd. In addition, motorists are advised to travel west along Old Wilkesboro Road instead of west on W. Horah due to possible traffic challenges.
Salisbury Transit riders visiting the VA HCS property will enter and exit at the gate on S. Merritt Ave. only. Salisbury Transit will continue to provide service to the VA during regular operating hours.
Salisbury Police officers will be in the immediate area to assist motorists at the Brenner and Link Ave. traffic signal, the intersection of Brenner and Hedrick St., and at the S. Merritt Ave. gate.
