Salisbury Transit will suspend fare collections on all routes effective Tuesday, March 31, 6 a.m., as the system implements a rear-door entry policy to help keep passengers and operators safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, while still providing essential transit needs.
Transit agencies around the country are switching to free public transit and rear-door entry to help maintain at least six feet of distance between drivers and passengers. Salisbury Transit is following suit.
Passengers will enter and exit buses via the rear door whenever possible. Passengers with mobility devices such as wheelchairs and scooters, or who need the entry ramp to be lowered in order to board safely, will still be able to use the front door to enter and exit as needed.
Per Governor Cooper’s executive order, access to critical services such as food, medical appointments, medicine, and some employment is essential. Salisbury Transit will continue to offer essential transportation options to the community during these challenging times. Currently, service on all bus routes is operating on a normal schedule.
