Brenner Crossing Homicide Update Suspect Arrested

The Salisbury Police Department arrested Jihiem Tiquez Leach on 09-07-2021 at 1418 North Main Street, Salisbury NC, for an outstanding Homicide warrant. Mr. Leach was charged with Murder for the Brenner Crossing incident that occurred on 08/24/2021. Mr. Leach was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a no bond.

SNAG Meetings Postponed By SPD Until Further Notice

Due to worsening COVID-19 conditions, the Salisbury Police Department is postponing SNAG meetings until further notice.

At these monthly meetings, residents would hear monthly updates concerning neighborhood activity, related investigations, and code enforcement issues.

Salisbury City Council holds public meeting to address City Manager search

Salisbury City Council holds its first virtual public meeting to address its new City Manager search process, Monday, Aug. 30 at 5:30 p.m. During the meeting, Hartwell Wright from the NC League of Municipalities is expected share best practices for the upcoming search process.

SPD Unveils New Crime Information Center

The Salisbury Police Department (SPD) recently debuted its new Rowan Regional Crime Information Center (RRCIC), a law enforcement hub which enables Rowan County agencies to more closely monitor and help solve crime incidents. The RRCIC boasts views of public and private camera systems and shared record management systems among agencies. The Center provides one central location for officers and analysts to hone their skills and use social networking and crime pattern data to support investigations.

Celebrate Our Local Waters With Rowan Creek Week

The Third Annual Rowan Creek Week is happening Saturday, August 21 through Saturday, August 28. Creek Week is a week-long celebration of local waters throughout North Carolina. In conjunction with multiple environmental organizations and local municipal departments, Creek Week offers recreational, educational, and volunteer opportunities to allow everyone to enjoy and contribute to healthy waters in our area.

Employee Spotlight: Kenneth Graham, Code Enforcement Officer

Kenneth Graham started his career with the City of Salisbury Public Works Department in 2015 before transitioning to Salisbury Community Planning Services. In his current role as a code enforcement officer, Kenneth issues warnings, official notices and citations to obtain compliance with zoning laws and building ordinances within city limits. This includes communicating with business and property owners concerning violations, responding and addressing code violations and nuisances such as illegal dumping, tall grass, etc., and spreading awareness about code enforcement to residents.

Salisbury Police Department recognizes upcoming retirements

The Salisbury Police Department recognizes four officers who have planned retirements set for the end of the 2017 calendar year.

Captain Sheila Lingle will retire from the Salisbury Police Department on Sunday, Dec. 31, with 30 years of service. Captain Lingle led the department’s criminal investigations function and community outreach. Captain Lingle also served as the department PIO. She was one of the first female officers to reach the rank of captain in the department.

Lieutenant Jeffrey Wilkerson will retire from the Salisbury Police Department on Sunday, Dec. 31, after 20 years of service. Lt. Wilkerson led a patrol team during his time as a lieutenant, and he also served as a patrol team sergeant, Drug Unit sergeant, and K-9 officer.

Officer Brad Jordan will retire from the Salisbury Police Department on Sunday, Dec. 31, as a patrol officer. Officer Jordan has 30 years of law enforcement service, and also served as a traffic officer and member of the Special Response Team.

Officer Annice Chunn will retire from the Salisbury Police Department on Sunday, Dec. 31, after 10 years of service. Officer Chunn is best known in the community for her time serving as the Community Relations Officer where she aided neighborhood watch organizations, worked with the SPD Cadets, and coordinated many department community programs.
