Salisbury Parks and Recreation Closes Playgrounds

Salisbury Parks and Recreation Closes Playgrounds

In order to minimize exposure to COVID-19, the City of Salisbury Parks and Recreation has decided to close all City-operated playground equipment, effective immediately until further notice.

“In accordance with neighboring towns, cities and counties and with recent decisions by Governor Cooper, we’ve made the decision to close our playgrounds at this time to be most precautious in dealing with COVID-19,” said Salisbury Parks and Recreation Director Nick Aceves. “It was a tough decision to temporarily close a recreational opportunity but keeping them open would present a challenging obstacle in properly cleaning them throughout the day. We hope that our residents can explore other parts of our parks like our greenways and trails. We appreciate your understanding as we ensure the safety of you, your family and our employees.”

While City-operated playgrounds are closing, Salisbury has 508 acres of beautiful park land, including seven paved sections of the Salisbury Greenway and almost 20 miles of hiking and biking trails that will remain open. City parks like greenways and trails provide residents with ample room to practice social distancing while still feeling connected with the natural environment.
