Jason Wilson Named Director of Salisbury-Rowan Utilities

After conducting a national recruitment process, Salisbury City Manager Jim Greene has officially appointed Jason Wilson, P.E. as the new director of Salisbury-Rowan Utilities (SRU), effective Monday, Nov. 11. Wilson, who has served as SRU’s interim director, brings over 16 years of experience within the department and will lead SRU’s continued strategic growth and quality customer service to the community.

Since joining the City of Salisbury in 2008 as a utilities engineer, Wilson has played a pivotal role in managing capital and developer-initiated water and sanitary sewer projects. His progression to utilities engineering manager in 2009, followed by his promotion to assistant utilities director in 2019, reflects his proven leadership in coordinating infrastructure projects and overseeing SRU’s budget and capital improvement plan.

As director, Wilson will oversee operations that provide water and wastewater services to over 56,000 customers across Rowan County. He will manage strategic planning, oversee utilities construction, and guide a team of more than 80 SRU personnel, ensuring the department continues to deliver top-tier services.

“I am deeply honored to be named director of Salisbury-Rowan Utilities,” said Wilson. “We have an excellent team who works hard to every day build on SRU’s reputation for reliability and innovation. Moving forward, I’m excited to expand our efforts on key capital improvement projects that will ensure we are well positioned for the region’s future growth. We remain committed to supporting Rowan County’s economic development through right-sized, resilient infrastructure.”

City Manager Jim Greene expressed full confidence in Wilson’s leadership stating: “Jason’s expertise and experience make him an excellent fit for this role. He’s demonstrated outstanding leadership and dedication to the community, and I am confident he will guide SRU with vision and strength as we continue to enhance our water and wastewater services for both residents and businesses.”

Wilson holds a bachelor’s degree in biological and agricultural engineering from North Carolina State University and obtained his professional engineer license (P.E.) in 2003. He is also a graduate of the UNC-School of Government’s Municipal and County Administration program, Leadership Rowan, and the Salisbury City Manager’s Leadership Academy. Additionally, he is an active member of the American Water Works Association and the North Carolina Rural Water Association.
