SRU begins sewer rehabilitation project in Downtown Salisbury

SRU begins sewer rehabilitation project in Downtown Salisbury

Salisbury-Rowan Utilities (SRU), the water and wastewater provider for the City of Salisbury and other Rowan County municipalities, will focus its ongoing sanitary sewer rehabilitation project on downtown Salisbury later this month, continuing the city’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure.

SRU’s underground sewer rehabilitation project consists of sewer line repairs, manhole installation and repairs, sewer lateral line cleanout installations, and cured-in-place pipe installations. The work will occur in sections along Main Street, from Cemetery to Monroe Streets. Some construction will take place on side streets. The initiative is expected to last through mid-November and resume in February 2025 until March 2025.

Crews expect to minimize vehicle traffic and pedestrian impacts through nighttime work, temporary street/lane closures, detours and sidewalk safety paths. Downtown Salisbury business owners, residents, visitors and area workers can anticipate short-term road plates and pavement patching in work areas. Parking will be occasionally affected.

“We appreciate City Council’s ongoing support by authorizing more than $3 million in sanitary sewer rehabilitation projects since 2018,” said Interim SRU Director Jason Wilson. “I share their key focus on sustainable infrastructure and support this through SRU’s continued reinvestment in our existing infrastructure. Another benefit of starting this rehab project now is that it will be completed before the start of construction for the 2025 downtown ‘Reimagining Main Street’ project, thereby reducing that project’s overall length of construction.”
