The City of Salisbury Fire Department will conduct its Fire Hydrant Maintenance operations beginning April 3 through May 5 citywide.
Residents within the testing areas may experience low pressure and a slight discoloration in water. If discoloration occurs customers are advised to clear the pipes by running cold tap water for a few minutes. You may consider postponing the use of dishwashers and washing machines and cleaning aerators that collect debris located on the end of faucet and fixtures.
Fire Hydrant tests are conducted to flush underground systems to help improve water quality and remove impurities and natural sediment deposits accumulated over time. Salisbury’s Fire Chief, Bob Parnell states, “Annual testing of hydrants is necessary to assure the important safety equipment is functioning properly for the safety of our city and citizens.”
