As cooks gear up for the holiday season, Salisbury-Rowan Utilities has tips for discarding leftover Fats, Oils, and Grease, also known as FOG. When FOG is poured or flushed down the drain it may not travel very far through your pipes. FOG will accumulate and stick to the pipe walls causing future sewer backups in your home, restaurant, or other buildings.
This month’s employee spotlight is Jay Basinger, a detective and crime scene investigator with the Salisbury Police Department. Jay is a sworn police officer who is always ready to step up and assist wherever needed. As a detective, he investigates a wide range of crime scenes with a focus on major crimes, including homicide, burglary, and sexual assault. Additionally, Jay is a member of the arson task force, where he collaborates with the fire marshal’s office to investigate fire-related incidents.

The City of Salisbury has launched a community survey to hear the public’s opinion about housing affordability, needs and types of development. The survey will help inform local leaders as they develop a 10-year housing strategic plan to help identify community housing gaps and barriers.
Livingstone College’s annual Homecoming Parade will be held Saturday, Oct. 21 in downtown Salisbury and along streets in the West End. Downtown streets will close at 8:30 a.m., and the parade will begin at 9 a.m.
