The Salisbury Community Action Teams, created from a series of community meetings designed to tackle some of the city’s biggest challenges, will host a Community Resource Fair for parents and children, Saturday, Aug. 17, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hurley YMCA.
This summer children up to 18, and up to one accompanying guardian, can ride free on Salisbury Transit to a Summer Food Service Program location that is nearby. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a federally-funded, state-administered program that ensures free healthy meals and snacks to children and teens in low-income areas during the summer months when school is out.
During the first full week of summer 2019, the Salisbury Police Department is partnering with the Salisbury-Rowan Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to launch “Summer Cease Fire” a local initiative to encourage Salisbury youth, and in some cases adults, to stop gun-related assault during summer 2019.
Salisbury City Council held a public hearing on and adopted the FY20 budget on Tuesday, June 18. The new fiscal year begins July 1.
Residents, business owners can “deputize their cameras”
The Salisbury Police Department (SPD) soon will debut its Salisbury Camera Action Network (SCAN) program in which residents and business owners can register their cameras, such as Nest or Ring, with SPD to help solve crimes in their area.
