The Salisbury Police Department (SPD) continues its series of in-person conversations with neighbors in various Salisbury communities thanks in part to a $25,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation as part of the energy company’s $1 million pledge to social justice and racial equity in North Carolina.
After months of planning, establishing its board of directors, and some preliminary fundraising, the Salisbury Police Foundation (SPF) is preparing its official kickoff campaign next month.

The Salisbury Police Department (SPD) will host its second, in-person “Cultivating Community Conversations” event Thursday, July 28, 5:30 p.m., at Park Avenue Center, 632 Park Avenue. There, residents who serve on the Police Chief’s Advisory Board will lead engagement between officers and residents in an open discussion.
West End residents are encouraged to complete the survey for the West End Salisbury Transformed Empowered Neighborhood Development (WEST END) $800,000 grant project in conjunction with the Salisbury Police Department, Parks and Recreation Department, Community Planning Department and the Salisbury-Rowan NAACP. The Salisbury Police Department responded to 121 Oakwood Avenue shortly after midnight on Tuesday, July 5, for the report of a shooting. Upon the arrival of officers and other emergency personnel, Dwayne Coward, 39, was found deceased after succumbing to his injuries.
A shoplifting suspect was injured today during a bicycle and vehicle pursuit involving Salisbury Police Department (SPD) officers in the 300 block of Arlington Street.
