The Salisbury Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred Wednesday, Feb. 2, at approximately 2:15 p.m. in the 500 Block of Admiral Drive.
On Saturday, January 22, the Salisbury Police Department was made aware that a nonresponsive child was brought to Novant Hospital by his adoptive father on January 21, 2022 around noon. The child showed possible signs of neglect and was transported to Presbyterian Hospital for further treatment.
The City of Salisbury will operate on a limited schedule for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, Monday, Jan. 17.
Salisbury Police, in collaboration with the city’s Parks and Recreation and Planning Departments, will receive nearly $1 million from the Department of Justice (DOJ) for crime prevention, recreational and public space development and youth programs in the West End. City Council is expected to adopt a budget ordinance at today’s meeting to accept the $800,000 Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Program Grant.
The Salisbury Police Department was able to obtain secure custody orders for two juvenile individuals who were identified as the shooters in the incident at Catawba College that took place on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021.
The Salisbury Police Department is investigating a shooting on Catawba College’s campus during a high school basketball tournament where two young males were injured.
This month’s employee spotlight is Lieutenant P.J. Smith. He has more than 16 years of experience with the Salisbury Police Department. Lt. Smith has worked in various assignments to include: patrol officer, detective, patrol sergeant, and current position of lieutenant. In his current role, Lt. Smith is responsible for supervising vice narcotics, records department, Project Safe Neighborhood Program, and the Rowan Regional Crime Information Center (RRCIC).

On December 7th, 2021, Detectives with the Salisbury Police Department Investigation Unit obtained a warrant for Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury with Intent to Kill on a James Edward Jr. (29 yrs old) due to the shooting that occurred on December 7th, 2021 in the 1300 Block of West Horah Street.
Hazmat situation near Old Concord and Gold Hill Drive. Residents should avoid the area. The Shelter in Place order for the area is currently lifted.
