UDC signs Fame relocation agreement

The Robert F. Hoke Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) has signed the original proposed Fame statue relocation agreement, previously agreed upon by Salisbury City Council and the Historic Salisbury Foundation. Salisbury Mayor Karen Alexander received the notarized document from the UDC Hoke Chapter president late Sunday, June 21 -- five days before the Friday, June 26, deadline.

The relocation of the Fame statue is a process that takes a great deal of planning, which includes securing appropriate personnel, construction equipment, and an extended closure of a NCDOT roadway through the middle of downtown.

Salisbury Neighborhood Action Group (SNAG)

The Salisbury Police Department hosts a monthly Salisbury Neighborhood Action Group (SNAG) meeting. At these meetings, citizens will hear monthly updates concerning drug investigations, criminal investigations, and code enforcement issues.

City, DSI end exclusive negotiations with Empire Hotel developer

City officials and the Downtown Salisbury, Inc. (DSI) Board of Directors ended exclusive negotiations with Empire Hotel Holdings, LLC, and its development arm, Black Point Investments, LLC, to redevelop the Empire Hotel. The end of the exclusivity means that DSI and the City of Salisbury are available to explore additional redevelopment options for the site.

As Chief of the Salisbury Police Department, I have worked to encourage growth in our downtown and was happy to see the gathering of auto enthusiasts on weekend evenings and what it does to help businesses in our Municipal Service District. While there were some initial concerns, the Police Department had not observed any behaviors that led us to direct our officers to address unlawful activity related to the gatherings. After several weeks, based on our observations and the complaints from residents and visitors in the downtown area of racing, public consumption of alcohol, and noise from screeching tires and revving or general modified engine noise, I am left with no choice but to direct SPD officers to strictly enforce the following laws and statutes:

Downtown Salisbury, Inc. Announces Empire Hotel Redevelopment Request for Proposals

Downtown Salisbury, Inc. (DSI) has released a request for proposals (RFP) to qualified developers to purchase and redevelop the historic Empire Hotel located in downtown Salisbury. The newly-established Empire Hotel Redevelopment Task Force will be responsible for reviewing the proposals received electronically by the deadline of 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2.
