Downtown Salisbury, Inc and the Empire Redevelopment Task Force Announce Winner of Bid For Empire Hotel Block

Downtown Salisbury, Inc. (DSI) and the Empire Redevelopment Task Force (ERTF) have unanimously voted to move forward with a boutique hotel concept with residential and commercial mixed-use for the redevelopment of the former Empire Hotel, awarding the development bid to Charlotte-based developer, Brett Krueger, and his affiliate, Howard Kosofsky.

Maple Ave Homicide Update Juvenile Petition Obtained

The Salisbury Police Department has obtained a Juvenile Petition for the homicide that occurred on 09-12-2021 at 801 Maple Avenue Salisbury, NC 28144. The petition was served and the juvenile was released back to the custody of their guardian by the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Families invited to participate in video for National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims

To commemorate National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims on Saturday, September 25^th, the Salisbury Police Department (SPD) will debut a special video honoring the memory of Salisbury’s murder victims. Families of Salisbury murder victims are invited to send photographs of their loved ones to be featured at the end of the video.

Brenner Crossing Homicide Update Suspect Arrested

The Salisbury Police Department arrested Jihiem Tiquez Leach on 09-07-2021 at 1418 North Main Street, Salisbury NC, for an outstanding Homicide warrant. Mr. Leach was charged with Murder for the Brenner Crossing incident that occurred on 08/24/2021. Mr. Leach was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a no bond.

SNAG Meetings Postponed By SPD Until Further Notice

Due to worsening COVID-19 conditions, the Salisbury Police Department is postponing SNAG meetings until further notice.

At these monthly meetings, residents would hear monthly updates concerning neighborhood activity, related investigations, and code enforcement issues.

Salisbury Police Investigating Grace Street Homicide

The Salisbury Police Department is investigating a homicide in the 700 block of Grace Street. Officers responded to the area at 6:11 p.m. for a shots fired call. Upon arrival, officers located a black male with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are on scene investigating the incident. Due to the nature of this investigation, no further information can be released at this time. Anyone with information, please contact Detective McEleven at 704-638-5333.
