The Community Engagement Department is responsible for developing and implementing programs that foster a thriving community and organizational environment, actively engages employees and the public, builds strong relationships internally and externally, and manages City communications and media functions while aligning these efforts with the City’s overall mission, values and Strategic Plan. With a focus on community, connections, outreach, employee engagement and workplace strategies, the department responsibilities include:


  • Effectively communicate City information to employees, the public and the media

  • Lead the development, marketing and implementation of community initiatives

  • Strengthen employee engagement

  • Manage, promote, and safeguard the City’s brand

  • Serve as liaisons to support the Human Relations Commission

  • Advise and assist departments with messaging

  • Monitor policies and practices to ensure organizational consistency, efficiency and fairness

Cheerwine, the 103-year-old soft drink from Salisbury, N.C., and its hometown will host a Virtual Cheerwine Festival on Saturday, May 16, at 5 p.m.

Last month, Cheerwine and the City of Salisbury announced plans to cancel the annual outdoor event that draws tens of thousands of people and instead host a virtual celebration for all to enjoy from the safety of home.

Today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Wheeler announced EPA’s selection of four entities in North Carolina for Brownfields grants totaling $1.4 million. The Salisbury Police Department is investigating a shooting incident in the 900 block of E. Lafayette St., which left one person dead and three injured. Two victims are currently at the local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while one has been airlifted to Baptist Hospital in critical condition. Police are searching the area for additional potential victims.
