Suspected Drunk Driver Faces Additional Charges

Monday, June 12, Kendra Rachelle Whitaker was seriously injured as a result of crash on Jake Alexander Blvd. Abraham Teya Morris is suspected of driving while impaired, driving at a high speed and crossing left of center into the lane of Whitaker. The crash took emergency personnel over an hour to remove her from her vehicle and she was subsequently flown to Baptist Hospital.

Master Police Officer Brad Jordan, accident reconstructionist, conferred with Rowan County District Attorney Brandy Cook late yesterday afternoon, and sought felony warrants on Morris for aggravated serious injury by vehicle.

Morris was re-arrested this morning at his residence, transported to the police department for processing and then brought before the magistrate where his bond was set at $50,000.

The family of Whitaker has been contacted about the new charges and the arrest of Morris. Whitaker is still under the care of Baptist Hospital.

It is the intention of the Salisbury Police Department to work diligently in the detection, apprehension and prosecution of drunk drivers for the protection of our citizens and the community.
