The Salisbury Community Appearance and Salisbury Housing Advocacy Commissions are inviting residents and businesses to participate in a continuation of last month’s “BlockWork” neighborhood beautification project in the 900 block of N. Main Street, Sunday, Nov. 24, from 2 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. This second BlockWork 2019 follow-up day will focus on two homes that were not completed on “National Make a Difference Day,” Saturday, Oct. 26.
BlockWork is the city’s signature grass-roots, neighborhood cleanup program developed in 2010 by the Community Appearance Commission's Neighborhood Leaders Alliance (NLA). The event strives to bring residents and community volunteers together to build cleaner and safer neighborhoods, one block at a time. Working together with property owners, residents, city staff and other support groups, participants help neighborhoods establish a proactive approach with stewardship of housing resources.
Eight successful BlockWork events have been held since its founding, including the initial event on S. Shaver St., which earned a National Make a Difference Day award and a $10,000 prize. Last year, volunteers worked in the 400 block of S. Lee Street.
The initial 2019 BlockWork event was held in the same 900 block of North Main Street brought over 170 volunteers to make visual improvements to the block - this year’s event was the largest BlockWork to date.
To volunteer for the second BlockWork clean-up day, please complete an application online at salisburync.gov/BlockWork and email the completed form to anels@salisburync.gov. Volunteers who do not complete an application online can sign-up on the day of the event.
Parking recommendations are on East and West Miller Street. Volunteers will meet in the front yard of 931 North Main Street to receive all cleanup materials and instructions. Breakfast, drinks and snacks will be provided.
