On Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, at approximately 12:52 AM, the Salisbury Police Department was dispatched to 1433 Old Wilkesboro Rd. in reference to a shooting that had just occurred. Arriving Officers located Auburn Odell Clement (27 years old male) with injuries consistent of a shooting. First responders attempted life saving measures but Mr. Clement succumbed to his injures.
According to Salisbury Police Chief Jerry Stokes, while this incident occurred on the property of the American Legion Post on the outermost area of the parking lot, there is no connection to any activity or event at the American Legion Post itself. The American Legion Post was closed and had not been open for events or meetings recently. It appears individuals involved in the shooting were not authorized to be in the parking lot, located at 1433 Old Wilkesboro Road. Evidence at the scene indicates multiple shots were fired in the parking lot where the victim was struck, collapsed, and ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
