The City of Salisbury has been named one of the healthiest employers in the Charlotte region, according to the Charlotte Business Journal’s Healthiest Employer ranking. Salisbury took second place in the “Employers with 100-499 employees” category.
The rankings and scores were provided by a third-party surveying partner, Indianapolis-based Healthiest Employers LLC. Nominated companies completed surveys that were verified, scored and ranked by Healthiest Employers. The companies were divided into five size categories by number of companywide employees: 2-99, 100-499, 500-1,499, 1,500-4,999 and 5,000+.
With just over 470 full- and part-time employees, Salisbury has made significant progress in employee health outcomes through its popular Health and Wellness Committee. The employee-led Committee is made up of staff at all levels of the organization who bring fresh ideas to the table. Examples of recent programs include water and step challenges, weight management incentives, healthy recipe sharing and lunchtime classes on the importance of cholesterol numbers. The City’s on-site nurse also has made it convenient to check bloodwork, manage colds and allergies, and monitor other health issues.
As a result of the Health and Wellness Committee’s efforts during specific four-week challenges, participating city staff lost a total of 73 inches, took 5,090,327 steps, and consumed 10,550 cups of water.
“I am extremely proud of the way our employee-led wellness team has been able to effectively engage employees,” said Salisbury City Manager W. Lane Bailey. “Our numbers show it’s working. Employees are more proactive than ever in managing their health and understanding the critical importance of their well-being, both at home and at work.”
