Two, 30-minute parking spaces will be designated in front of the Salisbury Police Department on East Liberty Street to allow residents to conduct online purchase transactions. The spaces are anticipated to be installed this month.
The Chief’s Advisory Board suggested the “Safe Exchange Zone” spaces so that residents can make online purchases in an environment more heavily patrolled by law enforcement.
“We want to provide this opportunity for our citizens so they are able to conduct these online transactions without fear of victimization,” said Salisbury Police Chief Jerry Stokes.
“Areas near the police department generally are safer because it is more likely an officer will be available during normal working hours. People who are intent on victimizing others are less likely to perpetrate a crime when an officer is nearby.”
