On February 24, 2022, the Salisbury Police Department Narcotic unit ended a multiple-month-long narcotic investigation by serving a search warrant at 1430 North Main St, Salisbury, NC 28144.
During the search warrant service, two pit bulls attacked one of the entry team officers by biting the Officer multiple times. Another officer present had no choice other than to utilize their service weapon and shoot one of the attacking pit bulls, which immediately stopped the attack. The Officer received minor injuries and was treated at Novant Hospital. Rowan Animal Control responded and took custody of all the canines located in the residence, including the one that the Officer shot.
This pit bull was transported for medical treatment and is expected to recover fully.
The search of the residence yielded the following illegal items:
- 135 Grams of Crack Cocaine
- 139 Grams of Marijuana
- 64 Suboxone strips
- 21.5 dosage units of Amphetamine
- 43 dosage units of clonazepam
- Three handguns, one of which had been reported stolen
After the search of the residence was completed, the following individuals were arrested for the following charges:
Raynard Lamont Bookhart (37 yrs old)
Charged with: Trafficking in Cocaine
- Possession with intent to sell and deliver Schedule II, III and IV
- Possession of Marijuana
- Maintaining a Dwelling for Controlled Substance
- Possession of a stolen firearm
Mr. Bookhart was placed in the Rowan County Detention under a $75,000.00 bond
Melvin Dewayne Brookhart
Charged with: Possession with intent to sell and deliver Schedule II
- Possession of Schedule II
Melvin Brookhart was placed in the Rowan County Detention center under a $5,000.00 bond.
