Everyone has a natural right to many things, including clean air. As the City of Salisbury continues to make strides to improve public health, we need to have the ability to observe our current impact on our natural resources.
Geotab, a device that has recently been installed in a handful of our city vehicles, is a great way to collect accurate data on what we can do to reduce future emissions, therefore improving our air quality. This is the first step in a municipal carbon inventory. A carbon inventory is the collection of emissions data in an effort to estimate the environmental impact of vehicles.
Additionally, this device is set to improve the safety and habits of our city vehicle operators by preventing idling. We can also use this device to make a smooth transition to alternative fuels and electric vehicles (EV’s). As Governor Cooper has emphasized the importance of converting to alternative fuels, this will give us data to go in a more sustainable direction.
