High school and college students in Salisbury have an opportunity to work in different City departments through the Summer Youth Employment program.
The program lasts four weeks. The students are able to work with a variety of departments including, but not limited to, Transit, Public Works, Finance, Parks and Recreation, and Fire.
Bralen Mitchell, a rising junior at East Rowan High School, is one of the students in the Summer Youth Employment program. During his first week in the program, Mitchel was able to work with the Fire Department.
“I was able to see an actual fire and how the fire department works to put them out,” said Mitchell. “It was pretty fun and a real adrenaline rush.”
The opportunity to work in the City through the Summer Youth Program has allowed Mitchell to envision what it would be like to work with the Salisbury Fire Department.
“It seems interesting, so I am actually considering becoming a firefighter when I graduate.”
