In November, the Salisbury fire and police departments announced a temporary change in its personal grooming policies allowing male personnel to grow facial hair to promote awareness and support of the United Way of Rowan County during the “Public Safety No-Shave” campaign.
On Tuesday, January 8, City Manager W. Lane Bailey announced the winners of the “Public Safety No-Shave” campaign.
Best Overall - Dustin Tanner of the Salisbury Fire Department
Best Salisbury Fire Department Mustache – Ted Reaume
Best Salisbury Police Department Beard –Brandon Casper
“We had awesome participation from our fire and police department personnel,” said City manager W. Lane Bailey. “Choosing this year’s winners was challenging due to the meticulously groomed facial hair displayed by each participant. I want to again thank all participants for their commitment and efforts to support our community through organizations like United Way. We look forward to expanding the program next year and continuing to support our local nonprofit.”
To participate in the "No-Shave" campaign, firefighters and officers had to make a donation to the nonprofit during the midst of its annual fundraising campaign. Participation was strictly voluntary, and all proceeds went to United Way.
