The City of Salisbury has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its fiscal year beginning July 1, 2018. The award is considered the highest form of recognition in government budgeting and is the 27th consecutive year the city has received the award for its annual budget.
To receive the award, the city had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as:
A policy document
A financial plan
An operations guide
A communications device.
Budget document must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories. The award is valid for a period of one year only.
“We are extremely honored to once again receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association,” said City Manager W. Lane Bailey. “The budget reflects our commitment to provide a transparent, comprehensive budget document so that residents can know how their tax dollars are distributed. This award showcases the team effort from every City of Salisbury department, especially the work put forth by our finance department, to ensure that we are continuing to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting and the requests of our residents.”
