The Salisbury Police Department, in collaboration with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, apprehended five federal defendants Wednesday, May 1, and Thursday, May 2, as part of its efforts to address gun and drug violence in the City of Salisbury and surrounding areas.
A total of 10 indictments were secured following undercover purchases of narcotics and firearms. The remaining five defendants were already in custody for unrelated offenses. Names are currently being withheld as more charges are pending. Since January 2018, the task force has charged an additional nine defendants for federal firearms offenses.
The apprehension of the defendants was a result of the efforts of the Rowan County Gun Crime Task Force, comprised of the Salisbury Police Department, Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and the ATF. Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the apprehension of some of the defendants.
