Fred Weldon is an engineer for the City of Salisbury Fire Department. He has been employed with the city since 2015, starting as a firefighter before being promoted to an engineer within the department.
Fred is primarily responsible for the safe and efficient operation of firefighting apparatus in response to emergencies. His duties include driving a ladder truck, regulating the water pressure from a pumper, and conducting maintenance checks for motorized apparatus to ensure the fire truck is in a response-ready mode at all times.
“I believe being an engineer is the best job. As an engineer you have the opportunity to develop others. Anyone can pick out a person’s weakness because it takes little to no effort. When you identify someone’s strengths and continue to help them grow and develop then you are truly investing in others. On a daily basis, we receive a lot of calls with various circumstances. The internal development and training that our department does translates to our excellent service we provide to residents.”
