Officer Smith responded to a call on Monday, Sept. 16, 2019. The call was in reference to a stranded female looking for help in Salisbury with no money or way to travel. Officer Smith contacted the domestic violence shelter but could not find placement. They traveled to the bus station in hopes of buying a ticket but the bus had left for the day. After exhausting all options, Officer Smith then took the female to a hotel and paid for the expense out of her own pocket. The Salisbury Neighborhood Action Group (SNAG) then voted her officer of the month for going above and beyond the call of duty.
“I enjoy meeting people on different calls and being a positive role model for the kids who don’t have that in their life. I’m also motivated by my kids. Knowing I’m out here trying to make a difference and my kids looking up to me, it encourages me. That’s what makes me want to come in and do my best.”
