The Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department has canceled the 2020 induction ceremony for the Salisbury-Rowan Sports Hall of Fame, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"It's unfortunate, but our situation is no different from other traditions and ceremonies which have been put on hold for this year," said Dennis Davidson, committee co-chairman. “With rules on large indoor gatherings still in limbo for August, the committee made the decision to go ahead and cancel. The induction ceremony is a special and crowning moment for those selected and we want it to be special for the new Hall of Famers -- with family and friends in attendance. We will just look forward to a grand event in 2021."
Due to the state of North Carolina's restrictions on meetings of large groups, the 14-member Hall of Fame committee has not been able to meet. Those restrictions made the selection process difficult as the meetings normally begin in March and continue into June.
