Cheerwine and the City of Salisbury announce musical guests, giveaways and more for the Virtual Cheerwine Festival

Cheerwine, the 103-year-old soft drink from Salisbury, N.C., and its hometown will host a Virtual Cheerwine Festival on Saturday, May 16, at 5 p.m.

Last month, Cheerwine and the City of Salisbury announced plans to cancel the annual outdoor event that draws tens of thousands of people and instead host a virtual celebration for all to enjoy from the safety of home.

The Salisbury Community Appearance Commission and Salisbury Housing Advocacy Commission will be accepting BlockWork applications from Salisbury city neighborhoods beginning now through Friday, June 12. The 2020 BlockWork event has been set for Saturday, Oct. 24, on, “National Make a Difference Day."

Salisbury one of Four NC Entities to Receive $1.4 Million for EPA Brownfields Cleanup and Assessment

Today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Wheeler announced EPA’s selection of four entities in North Carolina for Brownfields grants totaling $1.4 million. Recipients include the City of Gastonia ($300,000), the City of Kinston ($300,000), the City of Salisbury ($500,000) and the Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments ($300,000).

Employee Spotlight: Scott Ludwick, Recreation Specialist

Scott Ludwick is a recreation specialist for Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department. In his role, Scott oversees rental requests for park shelters, serves as the assistant to the Salisbury Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and assists with the department’s marketing efforts.

SPD investigating shooting on E. Lafayette St.

The Salisbury Police Department is investigating a shooting incident in the 900 block of E. Lafayette St., which left one person dead and three injured. Two victims are currently at the local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while one has been airlifted to Baptist Hospital in critical condition. Police are searching the area for additional potential victims.

Salisbury’s new recycling contractor to begin July 1

Salisbury Public Works will introduce a new recycling contractor beginning July 1. Republic Services won the bid after a recent Request for Proposals to manage the city’s recycling program. The contract is for three years. To help with a smooth transition from Waste Management to Republic Services over the next two months, please read more.

Salisbury Fire Department Announces Promotions

SALISBURY, N.C., (September 17, 2019) -- Salisbury Fire Chief Robert Parnell is pleased to announce the promotions of Donald W. Clark, Zachary C. Grimes, Halsey M. Hoosier, W. Frederick Weldon and Spencer M. White, all to the rank of Lieutenant.

Lieutenant Clark is a graduate of Shelter Island High School in Shelter Island, NY. He joined the department in 2014 and currently resides in Mooresville. He is assigned to Engine 1 “B” Shift.

Lieutenant Grimes is a graduate of East Rowan High School and is from Faith. Grimes has over eleven years of service since joining the department in 2008 and he will be assigned to Engine 3 “C” Shift.

Lieutenant Hoosier is a graduate of East Davidson High School and a resident of Thomasville. He joined the department in 2012 and is assigned to Rescue Engine 2 “A” Shift.

Lieutenant Weldon is a graduate of Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach, VA. Weldon joined the department in 2016 after previously serving with the Norfolk Fire & Rescue department in Virginia. He currently resides in Lexington and will be assigned to Ladder 1 “C” Shift, also serving as the shift training officer.

Lieutenant White is a graduate of West Rowan High School and resides in Salisbury. White joined the department in 2012 and he will be assigned to Engine 3 “B” Shift.

All of the above promotions were effective Monday, September 9, 2019.
