Employee Spotlight: Vickie Eddleman, Traffic Engineering Coordinator

Vickie Eddleman has been employed with the city since 1999, starting as a traffic signal technician. In her current role as the traffic engineering coordinator, Vickie provides technical support for the traffic signal technicians, monitors the traffic signal system ensuring compliance with NCDOT, and handles citizens questions and concerns relating to traffic and pedestrian safety concerns, traffic signals and intersection or thru streets inquiries.

Lt. Walker promoted to Salisbury Police Department criminal investigations lead, PIO

Lt. Lee Walker has been named the public information officer (PIO) for the Salisbury Police Department (SPD), following the recent retirement of Lt. Greg Beam. Walker has been with the Salisbury Police Department since 2002.

Walker’s law enforcement career spans 25 years, beginning with the Appalachian State University Police Department. His previous positions with Salisbury include supervision of the patrol division, training supervisor, and patrol watch commander. In addition to his duties as PIO, he will serve as commander of criminal investigations.

Fire Station #6 Build Continues

Construction for the Justin Monroe and Vic Isler Salisbury Fire Station and Fire Academy on Cedar Springs Road continues to be an ongoing process. Due to the poor weather as a significant factor in the construction schedule delay, the project is running approximately three months behind.

Salisbury Transit suspends fares to support stay-at-home executive order

Salisbury Transit will suspend fare collections on all routes effective Tuesday, March 31, 6 a.m., as the system implements a rear-door entry policy to help keep passengers and operators safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, while still providing essential transit needs.

Salisbury Business System Bonds Fitch Ratings Improve

Fitch Ratings has assigned an 'AA-' rating to the City of Salisbury’s $38.7 million combined enterprise system revenue bonds, series 2020. In addition, Fitch Ratings upgraded the approximately $9.0 million combined enterprise system refunding revenue bonds, series 2010 to 'AA-' from 'A+'. The rating outlook has been revised to stable from positive.

Salisbury Mayor Declares State of Emergency

Mayor Karen Alexander declared a state of emergency for the City of Salisbury related to the COVID-19 virus (Coronavirus), following a similar declaration by Rowan County. The declaration authorizes the City to apply for financial assistance related to preparation, response and recovery of COVID-19 if needed through state or federal agencies.

Get Ahead Of Hurricane Season

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30. To keep your family safe this hurricane season, and to minimize risks associated with severe weather, follow these tips from Salisbury’s public safety officials:

Develop a weather emergency plan and e,ergency kit
Check flood insurance and know your insurance policy
If you live in an area that is likely to flood, designate a location on higher ground that you can move to before floodwaters reach you

Never touch downed power lines. Move away from it, and call 911
Learn how to use a generator safely
Build your emergency kit (and don’t forget to prepare an emergency kit for your pet)

Put enough water, food and supplies in your emergency kit for 3-7 days per person and per pet in your family
Keep your kit in one place and make sure your family knows where it is located

Residents are encouraged to sign up for RoCo Alerts, the City and Rowan County’s notification system, to receive information about emergencies and other important community news. Sign-up at salisburync.gov/rocoalerts.
