Community Appearance Commission Announces 2018 Holiday Storefront Decorations Winners

Salisbury’s Community Appearance Commission (CAC) members recently selected winners for the annual Holiday Storefront Decorations Awards. This is the fourteenth consecutive year of celebrating downtown merchants whose window displays best capture the holiday season.

In an effort to keep shoppers safe this holiday season in the city, the Salisbury Police Department (SPD) is implementing Operation Santa Patrol – a strategic, crime reduction plan for targeted residential and commercial business areas.

Salisbury names former Concord manager as interim planning director

W. Brian Hiatt, former Concord city manager, will lead Salisbury’s planning department on an interim, part-time basis until a new planning director is named. Hiatt’s appointment comes on the heels of former Planning Director Janet Gapen’s retirement and Development Manager Preston Mitchell’s recent resignation. Hiatt’s first day was Monday, Nov. 19.

2022 Cheerwine Festival Road Closures

The 2022 Cheerwine Festival will be held on Saturday, May 21, in Salisbury from noon to 10 p.m. In preparation for the Festival, the city will begin to close roadways on Friday, May 20, at 8 p.m.

• Closures beginning Friday, May 20 at 8 p.m.:
o 200 block of North Main St. between Liberty St. and Council St.

• Closures beginning Saturday, May 21 at 12 a.m.:
o 100 block of North Main St.
o 100 and 200 blocks of South Main St. between Innes and Bank St.
o 100 blocks of East and West Council
o East and West Fisher St.

• Closures beginning Saturday, May 21 at 4 a.m.:
o 100 blocks of East and West Innes St.

After the Festival, motorists can expect the 100 blocks of East and West Innes St. to re-open after midnight on Sunday, May 22. All other road closures will re-open at 2 a.m. on Sunday, May 22.

The city is advising motorists to seek alternate routes during the closures. Portable message boards in town and overhead message boards on I-85 will announce detours. For more information about the Cheerwine Festival, visit cheerwinefest.com
