Linear Parks

A linear park is a park in an urban or suburban setting that is substantially longer than it is wide.

Some are rail trails ("rails to trails"), that is disused railroad beds converted to recreational use, while others use of strips of public land next to canals, streams, extended defensive walls, electrical lines, highways and shorelines. They are also often described as greenways.

Originally established in 1996 by the Greenway Task Force, the Salisbury Greenway became an official arm of the City in February, 2000.

Active Parks

An active park has an urban character and requires intensive development.

It often involves cooperative or team activity, including playgrounds, ball fields, swimming pools, gymnasiums, and skateparks. Active recreation such as team sports, due to the need to provide substantial space to congregate, typically involves intensive management, maintenance, and high costs.

This district park/athletic complex offers active and passive areas including four soccer fields, open grassy fields, walking trails, five ball fields, a concession and restroom area, a well-stocked fishing lake with picnic decks, three picnic areas and three play structures.

Trees deliver a myriad of services in city infrastructure, from traffic management, carbon sequestration, and pollution mitigation, to economic development and definition of public space.

Neighborhood Parks

Neighborhood parks, which generally range in size up to 30 acres, serve as a social and recreational focal points for neighborhoods and are the basic units of a park system. Many include a playground. Neighborhood parks provide relief from the built environment for residents.



Dog Park

This park is an opportunity for dogs to get out of their backyards to mingle with other dogs and for dog owners to come together.
