Salisbury Parks and Recreation maintains 508 acres of beautiful park land, encompassing 29 park properties and parks, a swimming pool and splash pad, a sports complex and a large community park and athletic complex. In addition, the department provides many amenities for public enjoyment, including four recreation facilities, ten tennis courts, seven paved sections (5.2 miles) of the Salisbury Greenway, almost 20 miles of hiking and biking trails and maintains urban trees and gardens throughout the City.

OUR PLAY BOOK

The Parks and Recreation has a play book for everyone! We are responsible for providing quality recreational programs for the citizens of Salisbury and surrounding community. We aim to provide diverse, educational, instructional and active programming for youth, teens and adults.

Seasons

Our programming falls into three seasons lasting roughly four months long. Winter/Spring goes from January through April. Our summer season is May through August. And last but not least, Autumn goes from September through December.

Salisbury residents who have vowed to increase their exercise and learn a new craft this year are in luck. The parks and recreation department recently released its Winter Playbook, chock-full of fun progams for young and old alike. Bellydance for Beginners, Chair Volleyball, Poetry of Hip Hop, Splatter Art and Intro to Coding are just a few of the many new programs featured in this season’s offerings.

The City of Salisbury, Cheerwine presents the Cheerwine Festival

To commemorate the launch of Cheerwine’s second century, the City of Salisbury and Cheerwine are teaming up to host a Cheerwine-themed festival.

The free event will take place on Saturday, May 19, in downtown Salisbury from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Cheerwine fans will enjoy cold Cheerwine, live music, great Southern food, shopping for Cheerwine merchandise, family-friendly activities, a beer garden and local craft vendors.

Girls Who Code Spring Session Coming Up

Catawba, Livingstone Colleges partner with Fibrant, Parks and Recreation to provide guest instruction during spring Girls Who Code Club

Two Salisbury higher educational institutions, Catawba College and Livingstone College, will assist with guest instruction of the Salisbury Girls Who Code Club (GWC) spring session. The partnership is the first of its kind where the local educational organizations have joined forces with city departments to instruct public, private and home-school youth together on a STEM-related project.

Shelter Reservations

Where can I get information to rent a shelter, gazebo, greenway or park?

This information is available on the Parks and Recreation activeNet site Reservations.
If you need additional clarification please call (704) 216-PLAY Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Can I reserve a shelter, gazebo, greenway or park online?

No, reservations must be made in person in the parks administration office located at City Hall, 130 S. Main St., Salisbury, North Carolina 28144. Please call (704) 638-2110 to set up an appointment. Reservations for city parks must be approved in advance.

What do I need to reserve a shelter, gazebo, greenway or park?

You must present valid state identification (photo id) and pay the balance in full* to the parks administration office located in City Hall, 130 S. Main St., Salisbury, North Carolina 28144.
*If you are making a reservation within 30 days of your event, the balance must be paid in full. The balance can only be transferred to another park facility. Reservations will not be accepted under two weeks. Please call (704) 638-2110 to set up an appointment.

When reserving a shelter, open reserve and pavilion and I want to cancel my reservation, can I get a refund?

Fees paid-to date will be refunded, except for the administration fee of $7.00, for cancellation of a park rental agreement thirty days or more in advance of the use date. City policy makes it necessary that all rental or other refunds be made by check issued by the City Comptroller. It takes approximately 14 to 21 working days (3 weeks) to process and mail a refund check. Fees paid-to date will be forfeited for cancellation less than thirty days of the permit use date. The reservation may be transferred to an alternate date at the same shelter or a different but comparable shelter (if available) within 3 months, but no sooner than 2 weeks prior to the original date. A $7.00 administration fee will apply to the new permit.

I want to have a party at a park. Do I need to get a permit and is there a fee?

Yes, a $50 park usage permit is required for park use if your event is for 50 or more people or if any of the following items will be introduced onto the park grounds:
  • Portable restrooms
    • The rental company must have proof of liability insurance, which names the City of Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department as an additional insurer.
  • Amplification
    • “Amplification” means a loudspeaker, amplifier, public address system or any other artificial sound system that amplifies and plays sound for the purpose of publicly projecting or broadcasting the sound.
  • Amusement devices - Jumping balloons, moonwalks, dragons, or similar apparatus
    • The rental company must have proof of liability insurance, which names the City of Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department as an additional insurer.
  • Stage
    • The rental company or stage vendor must have proof of liability insurance, which names the City of Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department as an additional insurer.

What are the shelter rules and regulations?

All reservations must be made in person by the renter (the individual or authorized representative of the organization which is to use the facility). The renter is responsible for the enforcement of all rules and regulations.
The City Fire Marshal limits capacity at each shelter to 100 persons. The renter must advise the Parks and Recreation Department of the number of persons expected to attend the activity at the time the renter signs the rental agreement.

Bell Tower Green

November - February: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
March, April, September, October: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
May - August: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

All other Parks

February, November: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
