As people around the world continue to adapt in response to COVID-19, Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department adapts by focusing on social media to cultivate positive health and wellness for Salisbury residents.

The Salisbury Parks and Recreation Team remains committed to serving our community even during COVID-19 and because of that we have adapted some programming to reach our residents virtually,” said Salisbury Parks and Recreation Director Nick Aceves. “It was for the safety of our residents that we closed playgrounds, but still provided an option for parks, greenways and trails as an option for recreation use. Our team wanted to offer another option for everyone at home and that’s when we decided on an online option. We hope that these short videos provide activity ideas, exercise options, and just plain fun until we get through this pandemic.

The virtual recreation engagement ranges from exercise videos to art activities, engaging people of all ages:

ABC FITNESS

Join our team and participate in some exercises that will keep you and your family moving while adhering to the stay at home order. Make sure you continue to practice social distancing as well.

Here is a sample workout of how to use the ABCs of fitness:

  1. Do a warm up. A jog in place or a couple of laps up and down the driveway to get the blood flowing. Next follow up the jog/run with arm circles. Close your warm up with 10 jumping jacks.
  2. Do the workout. Take your name and create a workout that corresponds with the alphabet, for example:
    1. SALISBURY
    2. S = 10 Burpees
    3. A = 10 Jumping Jacks
    4. L = 8 Lunges
    5. I = 10 Burpees
    6. S = 10 Burpees
    7. B = 5 Push-ups
    8. U = 15 Crunches
    9. R = 20 Jumping Jacks
    10. Y = 5 Push-ups
  3. Cool Down. Slow walk around the block or in the yard.
