UPDATED: Salisbury Police Department Arrests Wanted Felony Suspect Following Pursuit 8-14-2024
UPDATED: On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Kevin Antonio Smith Jr., (25 yrs old) a suspect with multiple outstanding felony warrants, was apprehended following a vehicle pursuit that extended from Salisbury into Charlotte.
At approximately 3:28 p.m., today, Detectives with the Salisbury Police Department located Smith at 525 W. Jake Alexander Blvd. while attempting to execute his arrest for a series of serious charges, including 1st Degree Kidnapping, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Child Abuse, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and several traffic violations.
Upon being approached by detectives, Smith fled the scene in a vehicle, initiating a pursuit that involved multiple law enforcement agencies. The pursuit spanned several counties, including Rowan, Cabarrus and Mecklenburg, before the pursuit concluded in Charlotte, where Smith was successfully apprehended.
Mr. Smith was served with the following active warrants:
- Fictitious Information to Officer
- Driving While License Revoked
- Four counts of First-Degree Kidnapping
- Robbery with Dangerous Weapon
- Misdemeanor Child Abuse
- Misdemeanor Hit and Run
- Reckless Driving to Endanger
- Neglect Child Abuse With Serious Body Injury
- Possession of Methamphetamine
- Possession with Intent to Sell And Deliver Sch II
- Trafficking in opium or Heroin
- Felony Possession of Cocaine
- Possession with Intent to Sell and Delivery Cocaine
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Mr. Smith was charged with the following crimes for the incident involving the chase:
- Two counts of Felony elude Arrest
- Two counts of Possession of a stolen vehicle
- Fail to Heed light or siren
- Speeding
- Reckless driving
- Driving While License Revoked
- Fictitious tag
- Fail to wear seat belt.
Mr. Smith was taken before a Rowan County Magistrate and held under a no bond due to a pre-trial release violation.
Mr. Smith was released to the Rowan County Detention Center.
There were no small children in the vehicle during the incident
Mr. Smith is also a person that Salisbury Police Detectives needed to speak with in regards to the Homicide that occurred on August 10, 2024 at 128 Rowan Mill Rd.
