The Salisbury Police Department (SPD) is investigating five shootings that occurred on Saturday, July 23, and Sunday, July 24.
“This has been a traumatic weekend for the victims, their families, neighbors, and our entire community,” said Salisbury Police Chief Stokes. “SPD is actively investigating five shootings that occurred this weekend. We want to reassure our residents that these incidents are not random acts. It’s a necessity for people who see something to say something. It allows us to put that information together to further an investigation, resulting in an arrest and someone being held accountable.”
The following is a chronological list of the incidents:
• The first incident occurred Saturday, July 23, at approximately 5:06 p.m., at the intersection of Bringle Ferry Rd. and Green St. A male was shot, and arrived at a residence in the 600 block of E. Liberty St. He was transported to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
• The second shooting happened at approximately 6:50 p.m. SPD was dispatched to the 800 block of E. Lafayette St. following reports of a 16-year-old gunshot victim. He was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
• At approximately 8:53 p.m., the police department responded to a third incident in the 200 block of Ridge Ave. in reference to a woman who sustained a gunshot wound. SPD crime scene investigators collected approximately 36 shell casings.
• The fourth incident occurred at 11:44 p.m. when SPD responded to Brenner Crossing Apartments in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a woman who sustained a gunshot wound. SPD collected approximately 40 shell casings.
• At 3:03 a.m. on Sunday, July 24, officers responded to the 1400 block of N. Main St. in reference to another gunshot victim. The man was transported to Baptist Hospital for his injuries. Investigators collected over 30 shell casings.
“Nationally we are seeing gun violence increase. We do not want violence of any kind in our community. We are asking anyone with any information regarding the incidents to contact us. SPD continues to explore ways we need to address gun violence in a community-wide effort. We have submitted requests for federal assistance,” stated Chief Stokes.
None of the injuries are considered life threatening. No arrests have been made.
