The city of Salisbury is hosting a drop-in, public information session, Tuesday, July 23, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at City Hall, 217 S. Main St., to share plans and gather input on the 2025 “Reimagining Main Street” construction project. The upcoming redevelopment encompasses six blocks between Horah Street and Kerr Street.
Residents and other stakeholders are invited to attend the public information session throughout the day, while downtown business owners in each of the affected blocks are invited to specific time periods for focused discussions:
- 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.: Horah to Bank Street
- 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.: Bank to Fisher Street
- 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.: Fisher to Innes Streets
- 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.: Open
- 12:45 to 1:30 p.m.: Innes to Council Streets
- 1:45 to 2:30 p.m.: Council to Liberty Streets
- 2:45 to 3:30 p.m.: Liberty to Kerr Streets
Feedback and comments can also be received via a pre-addressed feedback form that can be mailed to City Transportation Director Wendy Brindle or via email at wbrin@salisburync.gov or the Main Street Project Input Form. The pre-addressed form is accessible online at salisburync.gov/mainstreet, or in person at City Hall, 217 S. Main Street and City Office Building, 132 N. Main Street.
The Main Street Project is located within Downtown Salisbury, home to shops, restaurants, businesses, City Hall, the Rowan Museum, and the Rowan County Courthouse. Once completed, the Main Street Project will include a full streetscape redesign, including new sidewalks, tree planters, street lights and signal mast arms, site furnishings, public art, seating areas, curb line modifications, and ADA-compliant crosswalks and parking. In addition, work will also include a complete engineering design for the road, water and sewer utilities, stormwater system, and electrical and signals system.
The city’s Transportation Department is leading the project with support from the Downtown Development, Salisbury-Rowan Utilities, Public Works, and the Planning and Neighborhoods Departments.
