Cheerwine, the South’s favorite cherry soda, and its hometown of Salisbury are thrilled to announce the 10 finalists in the eagerly anticipated Cheerwine Festival t-shirt design contest, showcasing the talent and creativity of high school students across the Carolinas.
2024 Cheerwine Festival T-Shirt Design Contest
Cheerwine invited high school students across the Carolinas to showcase their creativity and regional pride with a T-shirt design contest for the upcoming 2024 Cheerwine Festival. With an open call to students to use mediums ranging from crayons and markers to digital design software, the contest sought original artwork spotlighting the essence of the Carolinas.

This month’s employee spotlight is Terry Simmons, a City of Salisbury Transit Dispatcher. Terry handles incoming calls and processes service requests from citizens, medical facilities, and government agencies.

Help provide input on the Kesler Mill site development plans
The city of Salisbury is hosting a second round of community input sessions to solicit feedback on two Kesler Mill development scenarios. Development Finance Initiatives (DFI), a service offered by the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Government, will lead the input sessions along with the city’s planning and neighborhoods department.
In a collaborative approach aimed at increasing mental health support and crisis intervention, Rowan County Public Health and the city of Salisbury have joined forces to launch an initiative promoting the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline's new three-digit number, 988. As part of this effort, magnets featuring the 988 crisis line will soon be displayed on both Salisbury police cars and fire trucks.
Within the recent City of Salisbury’s Tree Canopy Assessment Report, 45% of Salisbury’s land area is covered with canopy. This report also looks at neighborhood canopy coverage, beneficial cost of tree canopies, and an overview of future planting areas within Salisbury.

City departments kicked off the upcoming budget year, Wednesday, Jan. 30, in preparation for the next fiscal year. Fiscal Year 2025 (FY2025) is the city’s budget year that will run from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025. The adopted budget ordinance will set the new tax rate and city fees.
